You become a model or an actor in Egypt by auditioning and getting cast, and you do not need to know anyone to get in. Fashion houses, beauty brands and productions in Egypt keep looking for new faces, and Gulf brands cast here too. What gets you cast is how you come across on camera, how reliable you are, and whether you fit the role. This guide is for new faces: what brands look for, the photos you need, your first test shoot, and how to get seen.

What do brands look for in a new face?

Brands look for the right fit for one role, so no single look wins. A skincare campaign may want a clear, natural face; a commercial may want an actor who owns the camera from the first take; a fashion show may ask for a certain height and walk. What casting teams look for every time is simpler:

  • Presence: you hold the camera's attention, even standing still
  • Ease: you take direction and try again without losing your energy
  • Range: you can play it serious, light, or anywhere in between
  • Reliability: you answer messages, arrive on time and come prepared
  • Fit: you look and feel right for this role, this brand and its audience

Do I need followers to be a model?

No. Followers can help a creator, but they are not what books a model. Many campaigns want a face nobody has seen yet.

What if it is my first time in front of a camera?

Your first time is fine: nobody expects a new face to know every angle yet. Show up as you are, listen to the direction, and bring your own energy: the new faces who lead the scene are the ones who stay themselves when the camera rolls.

Which photos do I need to start?

You need simple, recent photos, not a professional photoshoot. Casting teams want to see what you look like today, so natural photos beat heavily edited ones.

  • A headshot: your face and shoulders, looking at the camera, in daylight
  • A full-length photo: standing straight, head to toe, in fitted, plain clothes
  • A profile: your face from the side
  • One with a natural smile, and one with a calm, neutral face

Keep make-up light, wear your hair as you usually do, and use a plain background. Skip filters, beauty apps and heavy retouching: if you are booked from a photo that does not look like you, the shoot day finds out.

What is a test shoot, and why do one?

A test shoot is a shoot for your book rather than for a brand: you, a photographer who is building a portfolio too, and a simple look. It teaches you to work with a camera before your first booking.

Agree in writing, before the shoot, on who may use the photos and where. Bring two or three plain outfits, arrive with clean skin and simple make-up, and bring a friend along if it puts you at ease.

Do I need a portfolio?

Not to start: at first, your portfolio, or book, can simply be your best natural photos and your test shoots. As you work, add the real shoots: an editorial, a campaign, a lookbook. Quality matters more than quantity, and ten strong images say more than fifty average ones.

Your social accounts work as a second portfolio. Keep a few recent, natural photos where people can find them, and keep private anything you would not want a brand to see.

How do new faces get cast in Egypt?

New faces get cast in Egypt by auditioning where a real casting team watches. Castings reach talent through agencies, casting platforms, photographers and brands' own calls. Wherever a casting comes from, the path looks alike: you are seen, you are shortlisted, and you are booked.

  • Say which kinds of work you want, from beauty campaigns to fashion shows and commercials
  • Keep your phone on and answer quickly: a casting can move within a day
  • Check every casting before you go, and ask what the role is

Kliqx casts models for fashion and beauty campaigns, magazines, fashion shows and commercials, in Egypt and for brands and startups in the Gulf. You join the Kliqx talent pool with one audition: one minute, recorded live on your phone, with no portfolio and no agency. The Kliqx casting team watches every audition and puts you forward for the roles you fit.

What should I do on the day of a shoot?

Come rested, on time and ready to listen: most of a good day on set follows from that.

  • Arrive on time, with natural skin and clean, simple nails
  • Bring what the brief asks for, and plain basics in black and nude
  • Listen, ask when something is unclear, and stay open to direction
  • Be kind to everyone on set: the people you meet today cast you tomorrow

How do I look after myself as a model?

Look after your body first, because modelling is physical work. Sleep, water and steady habits show on camera more than any product does. Keep your look close to your photos between castings, and say so when it changes. No role is worth a crash diet or anything that harms your health.

Modelling rewards patience. Every audition is practice, and every shoot, however small, teaches you how to work with a camera, a photographer and a team.
